Concentric Movements

When ever you perform an exercise there is always the concentric (contraction) part and the eccentric (negative/elongation) part. Today’s post, although short, is very important.

It is EXTREMELY important to exhale on the concentric part of any resistance training movement. Let’s say you are performing a squat. As soon as you start pressing the weight upward from the flooring, you should be exhaling. Holding your breath during this part of the movement can and will elevate your blood pressure. It will also pack stress on your body and can even pop a blood vessel. When you do exhale you will find yourself being able to even move MORE weight as opposed to holding your breath.
