Add Pause Repetitions
Oh these are fun…these are the ones you don’t see people doing because you aren’t able to handle as much weight. Men are afraid to try and women haven’t heard of rest-pause reps. So what are they?
Let’s say you are performing a set of chest presses. Instead of simply lowering the weight and then bringing it back upward, you actually pause at the very bottom of the eccentric movement. In other words, in this case you would stop for a 1-2 second count and hold the bar at your chest level. Then press it back up.
Performing Pause repetitions adds much needed variety to your exercise routine. Stopping and then firing that weight back upward will recruit many more of your fast twitch muscle fibers. This will increase your strength, power, and overall performance. Losing less weight is not always a negative thing..
