Stress

Let’s talk a little about stress. Did you know that stress makes you gain body fat?

When you stress, your body releases a chemical known as cortisol. Cortisol is a steroid hormone that is responsible for increasing blood sugar and suppressing the immune system. This leads to unnecessary gains in fat! In a way, it’s almost as if you’ve eaten sugar, except for the fact that you did not physically consume such a substance. And although cortisol can be released through exercise (yes, exercising is stress on your body), you primarily have to be on the lookout outside the exercise dome! Yes, when you stress about your upcoming week’s work endeavors, your body will release cortisol, which then promotes fat gain, high blood sugar levels, decreased immunity, decreased muscle tissue, etc.

The bottom line…for those of you that stress about every little detail in your life…STOP! And stop adding unnecessary weight to your midsection!
