Do You Know About Target Heart Rate?

If you’re someone who reads magazines or watches TV…even if you’ve paid a visit to the doctor… you’ve heard mentioning of heart rate, target heart rate, etc.

Here’s a few tips to help you define and use target heart rate:

1) Your ‘target heart rate’ is the term used to define how many beats per minute your heart should have in order to be performing at a certain level with a specific goal in mind.

2) Calculating your target heart rate. There’s a few ways that you’re able to calculate where your heart rate should be. The best way to know that your heart rate is exactly where it should be is to monitor how you’re able to communicate. You should be able to talk but not sing. Where once this way of monitoring was used as a way of “general monitoring” it is now an acceptable way to measure if you are performing cardio correctly.

Mathematically, the easiest way to calculate it is (220 – age) x (%rate). Your %rate will vary anywhere from 65% to 95% depending on your goals.
